Project Overview:
As part of the development team for my first game project in 2024 "Beehind You" I was responsible for creating and
refining all the character death animations. These animations were designed to align
with the game's lighthearted and kid-friendly theme, ensuring they were engaging
and visually appealing while remaining suitable for a younger audience.
Key Contributions:
1. Death by Bee Animation
○ Crafted a charming animation where the character reacts humorously
to a bee sting, falling over before bouncing slightly in a playful and
exaggerated way.
○ Ensured the movement captured the light, bouncy nature of the
character while avoiding any elements that might be frightening or
overly dramatic.
2. Death by Fall Animation
○ Designed a sequence where the character tumbles downward with a
delightful "bouncy" effect on impact.
○ Paid close attention to body movement during the fall to make it feel
dynamic yet soft, evoking humor and cuteness rather than tension or
realism.
3. Death by Running into an Object Animation
○ Developed an animation showcasing the character colliding with an
obstacle, bouncing backward in a cartoonish and endearing manner.
○ The impact was crafted to look playful, with the character momentarily
dazed, emphasizing the theme's cuteness without introducing
distressing visuals.
Attention to Detail:
● Focused on realistic body movements on impact within the context of the
game's whimsical style, ensuring the physics felt believable while maintaining
the lighthearted tone.
● Made the animations accurate to the character's bouncy and cute design,
leveraging exaggerated movements and smooth transitions to enhance their
charm.
● Avoided dramatic elements such as blood, limb deformation, or overly realistic
impacts, keeping the animations fun, non-threatening, and appropriate for
kids.
Outcome:
The animations were well-received for their attention to detail and thematic
alignment. They contributed significantly to the overall feel of the game, enhancing
player engagement and adding to the delightful, kid-friendly atmosphere.
